    Surviving College Without a Job

This post is by all means not trying to promote unemployment, but if you are a college student who has a million things going on it can be a little difficult to find a job that works well with your hectic lifestyle.  There are some creative things you can do to make some money.  The most important thing is finding a source of income.  And these days you can really accomplish this doing many different types of things.  You can thank the internet for making so many of these options possible!  So without further ado, here is my break down of some great options to make money without the 9 to 5:

    Sell Your Junk

Ever heard that someone else's trash is another's treasure?  Well, this is true.  Recently, I moved from one home to the other.  Now, it wasn't a very long distance that I was moving, but the one thing I realized during that move was that I hated how long everything took because I have so much stuff.  After the 5 car loads of things I literally could care less about the remaining items.  Utilize apps like Let Go or VarageSale to sell your items.  Or if you have enough clothes to not do laundry for 6 months, maybe consider selling some of those jeans that will never fit you again at Plato's Closet or Catherine's Closet in town by Market Place Mall.

Make a Job out of your Hobby

Love kids?  Pets?  Writing?  DIY?  Find a way to utilize those passions to make you some cash.  There are numerous platforms that you can use these days to get your name and face out there.  One popular way is to promote yourself on Angie's ListCare.com, or Sitter.meOr if you enjoy writing maybe consider starting up a blog, which is becoming easier and easier to create these days with available platforms such as Square Space, WordPress, tumblr, Blogger, or Weebly.

    Website Tasks

This one I can't personally attest to, but I've always wanted to find time to test these options.  If you are looking for a lazy way to earn some money consider looking into survey's online.  Pinecone Research, Mintvine, Harris Poll, Survey Savvy, or Opinion OutpostI recommend setting up an email account specifically used for these survey's.  That way to don't flood your main email accound with spam.  You will also want to be careful when joining these accounts.  Do not join a site that requires you to pay to sign up!

    Rent Your Space/Items

Gone for a weekend or some other long period of time?  Maybe consider renting out your space!  This could also go for other things such as your car, moped, bike, ror even a razor scooter!  Alright, so maybe that last option would be a little silly, but I'm sure you get the idea.  Now, this may take some trusting on your part and making good decisions on who you let borrow things, but at least this is an idea to consider if you don't have time to really work!  Check out spaces like Airbnb, ShareDesk or Turo if you think this is something that might work for you.

    Look for Jobs on Campus

When I was busy running around all over the place I did have luck at finding a job on campus in the Henry Administration Building.  While being a student worker isn't the most lucrative of jobs, it is an environment that is used to working with students.  It was also super convenient for me because being a Rhetoric major I found it was the best location for me to get to classes quickly.  If you find yourself int he same shoes, see what you can find.  Maybe you are free on the week nights late?  Possibly consider working for Campus Rec!  Or perhaps you take night classes and you are free some days during the week?  Consider working in a retail store on campus, in an administrative building, or even the Illini Union!  Love to help others?  Maybe look into being a tutor for your favorite subject!

While these are all great options, keep in mind that things do take time, especially when it comes to establishing yourself outside of your typical 9 to 5.  You may also want to still keep that resume ready in the event that you have one of these platforms unfortuantely become obsolete and you lose your income!
