5 Things To Have With You At All Times
While it's possible you could be inside the entire time, there are bound to be a large number of you who venture out at some point. If you happen to leave the comfort of your apartment, make sure to have the following items on you at all times:
A Flashlight - Great for those times when you drop something and it's dark or those long walks back to your apartment after the sun has gone down.
Your Cell Phone - I personally carry an iPhone 7 plus because I work a lot on my phone and it really comes in handy to have that much real estate in my hands. A smartphone is really handy to have every day because you can get all sorts of useful apps to keep your life in order, or to do things like showing you where you are on a map. If you don't have a cell phone, become friends with someone who does and stay on their good side all day so they let you use it when you need to.
A Watch - Many people have opted not to wear a watch in recent times because all they have to do is check their phone. But your phone could get stolen, you may lose it, or it could simply run out of power.
Money - Do your best to carry between $20 - $50 at all times.
A Photo ID - I feel like I don't really need to explain why you should have your ID on you on this particular day, but you really should always have this on you no matter what. If you don't trust yourself to hold onto it, make sure to give it to someone who will be with you who can be held accountable.
Where to Find Your Official Unofficial Gear
Honestly, you could literally wear anything green on this day. Or if you want to avoid Unofficial like the plague--as a good portion of people will be doing--green should be the last color choice you have in mind basically this entire weekend. But if you must have U of I Unofficial try searching through stores like TIS (The Illini Shop), The Unofficial Shop (if they have anything left), check local retail stores, or if you have a relative who has gone to UIUC or has somehow acquired Unofficial gear then borrow that!
JSM encourages you to be cautious should you choose to participate in Unofficial. If you do, have a safe and fun celebration! If you choose to hang out in your apartment or in class--you're probably making the better choice considering the weather seems to be looking a little rainy for Unofficial.
