    It's The Final(s) Countdown

    No one likes being the bearer of bad news, but I am here to tell you finals are fast approaching. Sure we can pretend they are still months away, but the reality is they start in TWO WEEKS. Now, you probably have a bevy of study guides, notes, and discussion groups that will help you learn material, but I am here with a few tips to make sure you stay sane during Finals.

    Spring finals have a very different vibe than fall. In fall you probably powered through with copious amounts of pumpkin spice coffee and the promise of 3 weeks off from school. Frankly, during the cold weather there isn’t anything better to do than stay inside and study anyway. Then spring rolls around and you are tantalized with THREE MONTHS off from class, gorgeous weather, and a plethora of signature drinks from lemonade to ice tea. Your instincts might be to hide in the library shielding yourself from these temptations but I am here to tell you to lean into it!

    JSM has a bunch of retailers offering delicious cold drinks that you can sip on while burying your nose in a text book. Whatever you flavor, they’ll give you something to savor while you quiz yourself on theoretical physics or whatever you students study these days.

    Studying outside has been proven to increase retention and eliminate stress, according to a study I just made up. The Quad is a great option, but frankly can be a little crowded with slack liners and Frisbee players. Turn to something more intimate, like the rooftop sundecks and 401 Chalmers and 405 White, or the open air courtyards and 700 and 701 Gregory. Out there you’ll be able to catch some rays and study hard to get A’s.

    Lastly, I recommend doing something a little wacky: put down the books. That’s right! You don’t want your brain to be the only thing that gets exercised during finals. Hit the JSM Fitness Center to work out some of that pent up energy. Studying and exercising afterwards helps improve your memory. And this time I am not making it up, not to give you more reading to do but the proof is right here. Pump some iron, hit the treadmill, and do some yoga all in the comfort of a JSM tenant exclusive gym.

    Studying is crucial, but self-care is just as crucial. Make sure to take some time out for yourself during finals prep. Enjoy the weather, indulge in a little treat, and be sure to stretch your legs. Alright, now go hit the books – they don’t hit back.
