7 Things To Do Before Move-In

Ready or not, the school year is right around the corner! With move-in dates quickly approaching, here are a few things that you should do before you move in.

    1. Contact your Roommates

Make sure that you reach out to your roommates and that you are all on the same page about who is bringing what. This will avoid situations like showing up with three sets of silverware and no plates. Make sure everyone is clear on what each person is responsible for bringing.

    1. Make Arrangements

Make sure you know what day you can pick up your keys. Different buildings have different move-in days, so it is important that you know which move-in day is yours! If you need to be on campus before your move-in day, make sure that you have other arrangements, such as staying with a friend or staying in a hotel. If you need to book a room for a few nights, we recommend staying at the Marriott Towneplace Suites. It is in a great location, right on Green Street and it is part of the JSM VIP Program, so you can get 15% off the current rate if you show your card!

    1. Get Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance is not a requirement for JSM tenants, but it is recommended. In the event that something happens to your building, JSM does not cover any damage or loss to personal property.

    1. Pack

You do not want to wait until the day before move-in to start packing! In the weeks leading up to move-in start gathering your things and making it easier on yourself. If you’re not sure what to bring, you can check out our packing list. Make sure that you are packing wisely and only bringing what you will really need. Although it can be very difficult to pick and choose, you’ll be thankful when your room in your apartment is not overflowing with stuff that you could have done without. Think about when you will be visiting home next and consider bringing only the clothes that you will need until that time. For example, if you plan on going home for Thanksgiving Break, pack only what you would need until then and then swap things out once you are home.

    1. Update Your Address

Make sure that you give your new address to any friends or family that may want to send you letters or packages! This is also important to do if you receive any monthly subscriptions boxes.

    1. Watch JSM’s Apartment Overview Video of Your Place

Let’s be honest, it’s been a while since you took a tour of your future place and when you try to picture it, it might be a little fuzzy. Have no fear! You can check out JSM’s YouTube channel to see a video overview of your apartment so you can start thinking about how you want to set up your new home. We are still in the process of filming the overviews, so not every apartment has a video up now, but we do have over 30 units featured so far with more coming soon. If your apartment does not have a video overview yet, you can check out the JSM website and at least see the photos that we have posted!

    1. Enjoy your summer!

Before you know it, the semester will be in full swing. Take the time now to enjoy your last bit of freedom and prepare yourself for the upcoming school year.
