JSM Development Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification for Uptown
Crossing in Normal
Normal, IL — JSM Development is pleased to announce that Uptown Crossing, located at 100 S. Fell
Ave. in Normal, has been awarded LEED® Certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council
and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). LEED is the nation’s preeminent
program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.
“JSM is pleased to achieve this standard for Uptown Crossing,” said Scott Kunkel, Architect for JSM.
“The LEED designation acknowledges the effort we made to provide our residents and commercial
tenants with an extraordinarily efficient building while still providing an exceptional product blending
premium amenities and a great location.”
Uptown Crossing was designed to reach various energy, environmental and sustainability goals to meet
the Town of Normal’s LEED-ND certification requirements designated for the Uptown Area. As part of
the process to secure LEED Certification, JSM Development coordinated with Henneman Engineering,
Inc. to reach the designated certification. Uptown Crossing joins the list of other recognized LEED
projects in Normal that include the Children’s Discovery Museum and Heartland Community College.
Uptown Crossing is the only LEED certified student housing development in Bloomington-Normal and
the only non-institutional student housing development south of Chicago to be awarded LEED
Certification.
The U.S. Green Building Council's LEED green building certification system is the foremost program for
the design, construction and operation of green buildings. Over 100,000 projects are currently
participating in the LEED rating systems, comprising over 8 billion square feet of construction space in
all 50 states and 114 countries. By using less energy, LEED-certified buildings save money for families,
businesses and taxpayers; reduce greenhouse gas emissions; and contribute to a healthier environment for
residents, workers and the larger community.
“Uptown Crossing’s LEED certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said Rick
Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “The urgency of USGBC’s
mission has challenged the industry to move faster and reach further than ever before, and Uptown
Crossing serves as a prime example with just how much we can accomplish.”
JSM Development owns over 1,400 student apartments near the University of Illinois and Illinois
State University campuses as well as 450,000 square feet of commercial space. JSM completed
Uptown Crossing in the early summer of 2010 and it is home to CVS Pharmacy, Illinois State
University offices, Apricot Lane Boutique and 135 one and two bedroom luxury apartments.
