Although Champaign-Urbana may seem a little quieter during the summer months, there is still a lot going on! If you’re staying in the area this summer there are tons of fun things for you to check out. Here are some of our favorite events and things to do this summer.
This event happens every Thursday from May 24- August 16 right in Campustown! Tons of restaurants on and around Green Street (Legends, Murphy’s, Paris Super Crepes, and Pokelab, just to name a few!) have fantastic deals that you can redeem every Thursday. You can also take advantage of special deals at stores like Apricot Lane (their deal is in the photo above!), The Illini Shop, and the Illini Union Bookstore while you’re there. Pick up a passport and get it stamped each time you redeem a deal. If you get at least 13 stamps over the course of the summer you can turn it in and be entered to win GREAT prizes including gift cards to Ragstock, Firehaus, Brew Lab, or the Illini Union Bookstore.
Later, at 9PM on the Quad, you can watch a movie as part of the Illini Union’s Summer Quad Cinema Series. This summer they will be showing great movies, including Tomb Raiders, A Quiet Place, Life of the Party, I Feel Pretty and more! For a complete list of movies and dates check it out here.

This fun festival takes place in Downtown Urbana on August 24th (5PM-11PM) and 25th (11AM- 11PM) and is free! It is the signature summer event for Urbana, featuring food, live music, arts and crafts, and lots of sweet corn. This year they will be featuring more than 30 food and drink vendors and two nights of live music.
Looking for a creative way to spend your day? Check out Pretties by Paris on Neil Street in Champaign. It is a DIY studio where you can bring a group of friends to come and create signs and artwork to help spruce up your apartment. You can even bring snacks to munch on while you create! The Urbana Market at the Square takes place every Saturday morning from May to October. It is located on the corner of Illinois Street and Vine Street in Downtown Urbana. You can buy fresh, locally grown produce as well as pastries, donuts, home décor, flowers, hot sauces, honey, popcorn, salsa, jewelry, blown glass, ceramics, and more! If you’re looking for something to do, head over to the basement of the Illini Union for a quick game of bowling. The games are affordable and it is a great way to pass the time. While you’re there you can also play video games, billiards, or eat at one of the great restaurants.
Check out this event in Champaign on August 17th (5PM-11PM) and 18th (11AM-11PM) and try some menu items from some of the best restaurants in the Champaign-Urbana area. While admission into the event is free, food tickets are available for purchase ($5 for a sheet of 5). The event takes place in West Side Park in Champaign. There will also be music, entertainment, arts and crafts from local artists for sale, and a 3.14 mile Pie Run. The Pie Run will feature water stops and pie stops with pie, provided from local bakeries and restaurants. At the end of the Pie Run you can choose to finish “pie free” or by running through the “flying pies”. Yum!
