JSM Move-In Day Tips and Tricks

    1. Know When You’re Moving In

Different buildings have different move in dates, so it is important that you know which day at what time you can pick up your keys.

    2. Get To the Office Early

Move in days are busy times on campus! With so many residents coming to pick up their keys, lines will start forming very quickly. Make sure that you arrive early if you want to avoid waiting in long lines. Make sure that you are listening to leasing agents that are giving instructions and reading the posted signs. Move in will go a lot more smoothly (and quickly!) if everyone is where they are supposed to be.

    3. Watch Where You Park

With so many extra cars on campus, it can be very challenging to find a parking spot. If you did not lease a parking spot with JSM, it may be difficult to find a parking spot close to your apartment, especially with some of the areas of construction on campus. Or, check out the Campus Center Public Parking Deck. It is open 24 hours and has rates as low as $1 an hour. If you have decided you would like to lease a parking spot with JSM for the school year, you still can! Click HERE to find out what is still available and contact our office for more information on signing your parking lease.

    4. Check Your Apartment

Before you haul all your stuff in to your apartment, go in and take a look around. Move any furniture that you want to be put in a different place and get an idea for where you are going to be putting your stuff once you get it in. This can save a lot of time and hassle in the long run. While you are there you can also look at your apartment as a whole and make sure there is nothing wrong and no cleaning to be done, which brings us to our next tip…

    5. Fill Out Your Check-In Sheet

You should have been emailed a JSM Tenant Check-In Sheet so that you condition of your apartment at the time of your move in. Make sure that you are communicating with your roommates about this, as JSM will only need ONE Check-In Sheet submitted per apartment. Make sure that your Check-In Sheet is completed within 72 hours of you picking up your keys.

Remember, the Check-In Sheet is NOT for submitting maintenance requests. If there is a problem in your apartment, you can submit a maintenance request on the JSM website. Or, if it’s a problem like your garbage disposal not working, resetting a GFI outlet, or working with your breaker box, you can check out our YouTube channel and fix it yourself!

If you have any cleaning requests make sure that those are submitted within 24 hours of picking up your keys.

    6. Grab Some Dinner

After a long day of moving in, why not thank your friends and family for their help by treating them to dinner and using your new JSM VIP card? There are tons of great restaurants and retailers that participate in the JSM VIP program and you can find a complete list HERE.

    7. Relax!

Moving in to your apartment is just the first step! The school year is just around the corner, so take a few minutes to relax and reset before the semester begins. Thanks for choosing JSM and have a great school year!
